On October 5, 2013, The President of the Republic of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, and the first lady, Cecilia Morel, stopped by Wat Pho during the official visit to Thailand.
Warmly welcomed by both assistant abbots, Phra Suthithammanuwat and Phra Udonkanaruk, which also guided the honorable guests throughout the sightseeing with the iconic landmarks of Wat Pho. The President informed that it was the second trip to Thailand, and his first time to tour at the royal monastery, Wat Pho.
As many country leaders have visited Wat Pho, and the Travelers’ Choice Award granted from TripAdvisor, resulted in the increasing popularity among foreign visitors. As of today, there is over 6,000 – 7,000 travelers visit daily with the increasing trend.
