The Principle Buddha Image in the Sermon Hall

Previously, Phra Buddha Sassada was the old Principle Buddha image of Wat Photharam. After the new main chapel was completed in the reign of King Rama I, King Rama I ordered to install Phra Buddha Theva Patimakorn in the main chapel and install Phra Buddha Sassada in the sermon hall. Later, King Rama IV named the Buddha image as “Phra Buddha Sassada”.

Art Style of Phra Buddha Sassada

The Buddha image is in a sitting position with legs crossed in the attitude of Meditation. The hands are folded on the lap with the palm of the right hand facing upwards. Phra Buddha Sassada appears in the styles of Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin with a round face, a lion chin, thick arched eyebrows, eyes gazing downwards, long ears, thick lips, curly hair and a flame-shaped aureole. The robe is draped over the left shoulder and the large shawl is extended to the navel.
